Editorial Policy
Accuracy comes first. Here is how we work.
Research
Our articles are based on established reference works, such as major encyclopedias, and on the scholarship they summarise, as well as on well-known primary sources where relevant. The main sources for each article are listed at the end under Sources and further reading.
Facts, estimates and disputes
History is full of uncertainty. Ancient dates, army sizes and death tolls are often estimates, and historians do not always agree. When that is the case, we say so and give the commonly cited range instead of a single number. We only quote words that are well documented, and we clearly mark traditions and legends as such.
Neutrality
We describe wars, disasters, religions and political events neutrally and respectfully. We explain different interpretations where they matter, without taking sides in modern political debates.
Corrections
If we find or are told about an error, we check it against reliable sources and correct the article. To report a mistake, email [email protected].
Images
Images come from Wikimedia Commons under free licences and are credited under each picture. We choose images that show the actual place, object or a historical depiction of the event, and we describe them accurately.
Independence
Chronicle is supported by advertising. Advertisers have no say in which topics we cover or what we write.
